Green space maintenance
In order to make the cityscape of Jena green and blooming, we design, maintain and care for the city's parks and green spaces on behalf of the municipality.
These include roadside greenery, lawns, hedges, shrubs, borders, planters and near-natural compensation areas (including war memorials and memorials of honor).
Green spaces improve the quality of life, the urban climate and air quality, help to shape the cityscape and serve the citizens as a place of recreation, meeting place, climate oasis, but also as event areas and barbecue areas.
The KSJ digitally manages the green spaces in the green space register.
Jena's largest green space is the Volkspark with the paradies, the Oberaue and the Rasenmühleninsel.

Further maintenance measures
- Establishing traffic visibility on roads and cycle paths (cutting overhangs, maintaining the clearance profile)
- Maintenance of water wall sites, outdoor ditches and fire water ponds (mowing, clearing, waste removal)
- Maintenance measures in Jena's villages
- Maintenance work based on agreements (e.g. KIJ areas, garage complexes, parking lots; JeNah areas, FSU areas)
- Pruning in the winter months
- Neophyte control (e.g. jaggery, giant hogweed, Japanese knotweed) - Further information on "Invasive alien species"
Planting
- Alternating planting for spring, summer and fall
- Irrigation of the planting areas (alternating plants, bowls, perennials, shrubs and specimen trees)
Of course, the small green spaces and planters in the city area are also part of the maintenance areas, such as the green space at the Alexander-Puschkin-Platz traffic circle or the Leutragraben tree slice.
We restore, design and maintain the seasonal planting of flower beds and planters. We obtain the plants for this from the municipal nursery 'Talstein' from our own cultivation.
Flowering meadows
Habitat for plants and animals
So-called flowering meadows, also known as insect meadows, are deliberately mowed only once a year.
A special perennial seed is used here, which consists of 100% herbs. From "A" for perennial flax to "Z" for tooth-ear daisy, 41 species are included here.
Cleaning
- Cleaning of green areas and water wall sites (rubbish/trash)
- weekly cleaning of parking spaces for glass igloos throughout the city and districts
- Winter service
Please do not park on the public green spaces. Parked vehicles cause damage to the turf and the roots of the trees.
Any rubbish/trash you bring with you must be taken away or disposed of in the nearest garbage bin!
There are prioritized, firmly planned deadlines/processes for all work in the area. The maintenance schedules are decisive here.
Of course, there may be delays due to weather conditions.
There are also fixed dates/processes for this. The maintenance schedules are decisive here. However, if branches or bushes are sticking out onto paths and obstructing the view, please report this to us using the defect report form .
Traffic overviews and hedge trimming can be carried out all year round. According to § 39 BNatSchG, pruning and regeneration may only be carried out between October 1 and March 1.
Please support us by paying attention to the "clearance profile" on your property.
We try to coordinate our processes in such a way that we adhere to the quiet hours (weekdays: 8-7 p.m.) and comply with noise protection regulations.
Wherever possible, we use battery-powered equipment and low-emission technology. We also use biofuel. Our latest vehicle is an electric van.
