Containers for disposal
Paper, cardboard, cartons are collected in blue plastic containers in the collection system. The following containers are permitted:
- 120 and 240 l containers (blue)
- 1.100 l roll containers (blue).
Purchase and registration of blue garbage cans
The 120 and 240-liter garbage cans are provided free of charge and can be collected from Kommunalservice Jena at Löbstedter Straße 56. The blue garbage cans are equipped with a transponder chip and an identification number (white sticker) from the ksj and are therefore registered for each property.
For housing associations and private landlords, 1,100 liter roll containers (blue) are available. You can obtain these from our sales department: vertrieb-ksj@jena.de.
Disposal of recyclables
The containers are emptied according to fixed schedules. You can view the dates under Waste disposal dates.
Mountains of cardboard next to paper bins
As can be seen in the picture, loose cardboard boxes are increasingly piling up next to the waste paper garbage cans on the streets of Jena. Unfortunately, these are also often left next to a half-full waste paper garbage can. If you consider that 100s of waste paper bins have to be emptied every day as part of a waste paper collection tour, you can imagine the extent of the additional work involved.
Disposing of waste not only takes a lot of time, but is also an additional physical burden for the colleagues from Kommunalservice Jena's waste collection service. For this reason, cardboard boxes left next to the garbage cans have not been taken away for some time now. A further problem is the soaking of these items in damp weather, which makes sustainable disposal of the valuable raw material impossible.
Please shred the cardboard boxes and dispose of them in your blue garbage can.
Alternative: Drop off at the recycling centers
Is your blue garbage can already full and the collection date not yet in sight? Then take excess cardboard etc. directly to one of our recycling centers. We have compacting containers on the sites where you can dispose of your cardboard etc. free of charge.
You can also order an additional waste paper garbage can.
How are the bins collected?
The blue garbage cans are emptied by Kommunalservice Jena and transferred to Löbstedter Straße 68.
What happens next?
After collection, this waste is allocated to the dual systems according to market share. The dual systems are a take-back system for the collection, sorting and recycling of paper. Der Grüne Punkt - Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) was the first and is probably the best-known dual system. Today, "Der Grüne Punkt GmbH" is one of many providers of take-back systems.
Each dual system is responsible for meeting its own statutory recycling quotas. The collection mix collected in Jena is transported to the individual sorting/recycling plants by haulage companies.
