The counseling is free of charge.

Our counseling services for 1., 3. and 4. can only be offered to citizens of the city of Jena.

1. debtor counseling and 2. consumer insolvency counseling

We offer comprehensive advice and assistance on your existing financial and personal situation. Together with you, we develop a concept of how your debt situation can be managed. We do not take over your debts, but show perspectives for debt regulation. We treat all your information confidentially, in compliance with the law. As a recognized counseling center, we support you in the event of consumer insolvency proceedings during the out-of-court settlement attempt and during the initiation and execution of the judicial insolvency proceedings.

What we expect from you
  • active and trusting cooperation
  • that you do not enter into any new debt obligations (loan, order, debt restructuring)
  • that you no new promises of payment / installment payments to your creditors (this does not apply to current rent arrears, electricity debts or imminent imprisonment)
  • that you refer the creditor to your appointment or visit to the debt counseling service
  • that you do not sign any forms during home visits (self-disclosure, assignment)
  • that you fully disclose your financial circumstances
  • that you keep agreements and appointments made with us
Preparation for the first appointment

Open consultation hours

The open office hours take place every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. takes place. For this brief consultation you should provide information about:

  • which of your debts is the most pressing and why
  • the amount of over-indebtedness
  • the number of creditors
  • the amount and type of your income

3. rent and energy debts, and 4. benefits for inmates in prison.

We will advise and assist you with rent and energy debts. Under certain conditions, we offer you financial assistance in the form of assumption of rent and energy debts and assistance for living expenses according to the third chapter of SGB XII. For inmates in prison, there is the possibility of assumption of rental costs to maintain living space during incarceration. Inmates in pre-trial detention can apply for pocket money. In addition, assistance for living expenses can also be granted in accordance with the third chapter of SGB XII.

In the case of rent or energy debts, apply for a takeover!

Debtor counseling/consumer insolvency counseling

Please bring original documents to the counseling center for the initial interview only after consultation with the counseling center.

Knowing and arranging your exact income and expense situation is a very important part of debt counseling. Please take a look at the documents.

  • Questionnaire personal data
  • monthly budget plan (together with partner)
  • monthly budget plan for real estate (if you use real estate)
  • List of assets
  • history of your debts
  • overview of creditors

As of 01.03.2002, only the official forms for consumer insolvency proceedings and residual debt discharge proceedings may be used for filing for consumer insolvency.

Since 01.07.2010 there is the P-Konto. Upon application, you can have the garnishment allowance increased, provided that you have maintenance obligations, which you also fulfill. The corresponding receipts must be submitted for 3 months.

If you receive benefits from jenarbeit, this certificate will be issued there directly.

Rent and energy debts/execution of justice

You can download and print out the application for benefits according to SGB XII under "Downloads".Please attach the following documents to the completedapplication (if available and applicable):

  • Identity card/passport
  • Chip card of the statutory health insurance or documents on voluntary health insurance health insurance
  • Severely disabled person's ID card
  • Guardianship card/Power of attorney for precaution
  • Proof of the amount of rent:
    • Rental agreement as well as last rent change declaration
    • in the case of right of residence and right of occupancy: transfer agreement
    • Proof of ancillary costs
    • Notice of termination, eviction action/judgment
  • Proof of all income, e.g.:
    • current 3 pay slips + employment contract
    • current pension adjustment notification
    • Notices of company, supplementary and foundation pensions
    • Notices of pension payments
    • Proof of life annuities, etc.
    • Housing allowance, child benefit, child benefit supplement, parental allowance
    • BAföG, alimony, ect.
  • Proof of all assets, e.g.:
    • Statements of all existing accounts of the last 3 months (without gaps)
    • Savings books, time deposits or money market accounts
    • securities, mortgage bonds, bonds
    • for house and land assets: current excerpt from the land register
    • in the case of residential property, part ownership for the elderly or usufructuary rights: Transfer agreement
  • Policies of accident, life and death benefit insurances with proof of the current surrender value
  • Current rejection notices from jenarbeit
  • Detention certificate
  • Declaration of consent for data protection for jenarbeit, landlord, housing subsidy
