Residence - humanitarian reasons

The Federal Ministry of the Interior may, in agreement with the supreme Land authorities, issue acceptance commitments for foreigners from certain states or certain groups of foreigners in order to safeguard the special political interests of the Federal Republic of Germany. The acceptance pledge for the foreigners concerned shall indicate whether a residence permit or settlement permit is to be issued. This residence title may be subject to a residence-restricting condition.

Foreigners who have been incontestably recognised as entitled to asylum or as refugees are entitled to be granted a residence permit.

You can find more information on this at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

In Thuringia, there is a Hardship Commission, which in exceptional cases can order that a residence permit be granted to a foreigner in deviation from the legal requirements.

Please make an appointment via the online appointment form. Select residence permit or settlement permit in the overview.
