These hands-on activities teach children about the structure of minerals and other materials used in glass production. The fracture properties of glass are also demonstrated in a fun way.

The development of optical glass for microscopes was a prerequisite for the founding of the Glastechnisches Laboratorium Schott & Genossen in 1884, which later became the Jenaer Glaswerk. Today, SCHOTT continues to develop and produce high-quality glass for optical systems. During the Long Night of Science, children can discover for themselves the structures and properties of minerals and other substances that play an important role in glass production. At another station, children can break glass tangrams and playfully learn a lot about the breaking properties of glass.
