How people and companies in Jena live interculturality
Meet Mahmud Hossain here
Mahmud Hossain comes from Bangladesh and now works at Accenture as a Business Architecture Analyst.
Dear Mahmud, where are you from and what brought you to Jena?
I am originally from Noakhali, Bangladesh. My path led me to Jena to complete my Master’s degree. I successfully completed my Master of Science in Economics at Friedrich Schiller University Jena. After I got the acceptance for the Master’s programme, I read and heard a lot about the culture, study system, nature and knowledge of Jena, which made me come to Jena.
What do you like most about your company and your work?
The strong focus on collaborative innovation, the supportive and friendly environment and the opportunity to work and learn on diverse and ground-breaking projects are aspects that I particularly like.
What challenges did you face when arriving in Jena and/or onboarding at the company? How were you able to overcome these challenges?
The new language challenge I encounter, but that actually encourages me to integrate effectively into the Jena culture.
What has your company been particularly good at supporting you with?
Accenture has been very supportive. They have created an atmosphere that really feels like a close family. The commitment they have shown to helping me develop both personally and professionally is exceptional.
What are the biggest differences in everyday life and work between your home country and Jena?
The biggest differences between my home country Bangladesh and Jena are in everyday life and work, due to different work cultures, social norms and lifestyle preferences. Jena offers me a new perspective and opportunities to adapt, so I can easily find my way in both worlds.
What do you consider typically German or typically Jena?
For me, typical German characteristics include efficiency and accuracy in work processes as well as a preference for punctuality and orderly procedures. For me, typical of Jena is its rich history, which is characterised by scientific innovation and cultural diversity.
Thank you for the interview and all the best on your way!
