We will show you how we combine traditional biological methods with computer analyses to investigate the effects of nutrition on our intestinal flora.

We are never alone. We can always count on the company of trillions of microorganisms that live in our gut and are known as gut flora or the gut microbiome. These tiny companions help us digest our food, strengthen our immune system and protect us from disease.

But our gut flora can also make us ill. How does this happen and how can we prevent it?

The type of food we eat influences the composition of our intestinal flora. Some diets can even promote the growth of harmful gut microbes, which can then cause or exacerbate a range of diseases, including metabolic diseases, cancer and many others. A better understanding of our gut flora is crucial to maintaining good health.

At this station, we will show you how we combine traditional biological methods with computer analysis to study and better understand the effects of diet on our gut flora. Learn how this research can help us in the fight against colon cancer and metabolic diseases.
