Large and small firearms license and firearms possession card - Weapons law permits
Weapons permits are generally required for the acquisition, possession and carrying of firearms and the acquisition and possession of ammunition. Weapons law permits include:
- Weapons possession cards (WBK: green, yellow and red)
- European firearms pass
- Small firearms license
- Transfer permits
The acquisition and transfer of firearms must be reported within 2 weeks. Please use the application and notification forms for this purpose (-> Forms).

Verification of safe storage of firearms and ammunition
Since 25.07.2009, the firearms authorities - inSince 25 July 2009, the firearms authorities - in Thuringia the independent cities and district offices - have been authorized and obliged to check the safe storage of firearms and ammunition at the premises of the holders of firearms permits (cf. Section 36 (3) Sentence 2 WaffG).
The Jena Weapons Authority is now supported in this task by trained staff in the enforcement service.n employees in the enforcement service. Like the weapons law department, this is also assigned to the municipal order department. The employees can identify themselves by means of an enforcement service ID card issued in their name with a photograph.
