Accompanied driving from 17
Details
Requirements
You have your main residence in Jena. You have the necessary minimum age or will reach it in a time near to the examination.
Application
A representation for the application is not possible, since the card driver's license contains your signature, which must already be made with the application. You do not have to fill in an application form. It will be prepared by us and only signed by you.
Apply online
You can also apply for an accompanied driving licence from 17 years of age online at the driving licence authority.
Requirements for an accompanying person
The accompanying person
- must have reached the age of 30,
- must have held a valid class B driving licence for at least five years; the driving licence must be evidenced by a valid driving licence, which must be carried during the escort and handed over to persons authorised to monitor road traffic on request,
- must not have more than one point in the central traffic register at the time of application for the driving licence.
The accompanying person may not accompany the holder of the test certificate if he has
- has 0.25 mg/l or more of alcohol in the breath or 0.5 per mille or more of alcohol in the blood or an amount of alcohol in the body that results in such a breath or blood alcohol concentration,
- is under the influence of an intoxicating agent specified in the annex to § 24 a of the Road Traffic Act.
An effect within the meaning of sentence 1 no. 2 shall be deemed to exist if a substance specified in the Schedule to section 24 a of the Road Traffic Act is detected in the blood. Sentence 1 No. 2 shall not apply if the substance is derived from the intended use of a medicinal product prescribed for a specific case of illness.
Joint preparation with the novice driver
Training for companions is not mandatory. However, it is recommended that you prepare for BF17 together with the novice driver. For example, an information evening at the driving school is suitable for this. It is aimed in particular at the companions, explains your tasks and teaches you how to behave appropriately while driving.
Accompanying person as a competent contact person
The accompanying person is distinguished by his or her many years of driving experience. Their presence should make the novice driver feel safer. The attendant is available to the driver as a competent contact person.
He observes the traffic attentively, supports the novice driver with comments if necessary and gives him feedback on his driving behaviour - for example at the end of the journey. The accompanying person has no training function and may not interfere with driving.
Novice drivers - test certificate, alcohol ban & probationary period
Instead of a "card driving licence", 17 year olds are issued with an "examination certificate" on which the accompanying person is noted. This certificate, along with an ID card, must be carried by the novice driver at all times when driving.
Of course, the absolute ban on alcohol also applies to all BF17 participants until they are 21 years old.
The probationary period for BF17 begins when the test certificate is issued. It lasts two years, as is the case with every initial issue of a car driving licence. The same measures are taken for traffic offences as for the probationary period of novice drivers with a conventional driving licence.
Driving without a companion
Driving without a companion is also a serious traffic violation. As a consequence, a fine will be imposed and the young driver's licence will be revoked. This does not apply to the included classes AM and L. In addition, the probationary period is extended and the novice driver must attend a chargeable follow-up training course (Aufbauseminar).
A new driving licence may be issued after six months at the earliest. However, if a test for the moped or the driving licence classes A1, AM, L or T has already been taken before the passenger car driving training, these driving licences remain valid.
Procedure/Deadlines
- The application can be submitted at the earliest 6 months before reaching the minimum age of 17 years and only with the consent of the legal representatives.
- Once your documents have been checked, we will issue the test order to the test organisation. Your driving school will be informed and can then register you for the test. The processing time for your application takes approx. 4 weeks.
- After passing the practical test, the examiner will issue you with a test certificate for "accompanied driving from the age of 17". The test certificate is valid for a maximum of 3 months after the age of 18.
- Once you have reached the age of 18, you can drive class B motor vehicles with the test certificate without an accompanying person until you receive your driving licence.
- When you turn 18, we will order your driving licence from the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin. The driving licence will be sent to you directly by post (the cost of postage cannot be avoided).
