Using "enchanted" light particles to securely send digital data or create images from nothing! Researchers at Fraunhofer IOF are developing cutting-edge systems to protect our data or diagnose diseases using quantum technologies.

You can do a lot with light particles, the quanta. They always appear as "twins" and can be magically altered in such a way that one particle always knows exactly what the other is doing. Even if they are very far apart. This entanglement effect is being used by researchers at Fraunhofer IOF to create a secure data network. In future, this could be used to send sensitive data in a highly secure manner. In medicine, samples are examined using microscopes. The light from the microscope can alter or damage the samples. With the help of quanta, researchers at Fraunhofer IOF can create images of the samples from nothing without them even coming into direct contact with light.
