Driver card - replacement

These devices digitally record the driving and rest times of drivers engaged in commercial transport and are gradually replacing the previous tachograph. The control devices are operated with special chip cards for the driving personnel, the so-called "driver cards".

Prerequisite

You have your main residence in Jena.

Application

It is not possible to stand in for an application, as the driver card contains your signature, which must be provided at the time of application. You do not have to fill in an application form. It will be prepared by us and only signed by you.

• The end of validity of the driver card to be replaced corresponds to the end of validity of the previous driver card if the remaining period is more than 185 days.
• The driver must make appropriate printouts from the digital tachograph for the period during which he is without a driver card.
• The driver card to be replaced must be applied for within 7 calendar days, stating the reasons for the early application.
• The new driver card shall be issued to the driver within 5 working days from the date of submission of the complete application documents.
• The driver card is issued at the central registration desk of the Citizen Service on the ground floor of Löbdergraben 12.

• Passport or identity card
• Photo: Please bring a photo that is not older than three months and complies with biometric regulations. The picture must be 3.5 x 4.5 cm. You can find out what the picture must look like on the Bundesdruckerei website (see links).
• EU driving licence
• In the event of theft, a (formal) theft report from the police must be submitted to the office processing the application.
• If the driver card is lost during the regular period of validity, a declaration in lieu of an oath must be submitted stating the loss and the circumstances of the loss - you can submit the declaration in lieu of an oath to us or to a notary public.
