Procedure on election day

In the polling stations in the city districts, work begins at 07:15 on election Sunday. The polling stations open at 08:00 and close at 18:00. Each electoral board usually consists of 6 to 9 people. The polling assistants do not all have to be present at all times during the election period. As a rule, the election supervisors divide their teams into a morning and an afternoon group in advance. From 18:00, all members of the electoral board come together to determine the results.

In the postal voting stations in the postal voting center, the polling assistants meet at 2:15 p.m. and first check the correctness of the ballot papers of the ballot letters received. From 6.00 p.m., the results will also be determined here.

Please expect the results to be determined by around 22:00.

Appointment, briefing, training

Approximately 4 weeks before election day, all poll workers receive a letter of appointment, which also contains further information. They will then be briefed on their duties on election Sunday.

In the two weeks before the election, election officers, secretaries and their deputies should take part in a training course (in person or online). Assessors are also very welcome. The possible training dates will be communicated with the appointment letter.

Training documents can be downloaded from this page under Downloads from approx. 3 weeks before the election day.
