Since 01.10.2024, the City of Jena has had five departments instead of four. As a result, the organizational structure on the website will be revised and updated by the beginning of 2025.

Department 4 consists of the following areas:

Aliens Service Team (Aliens Department)
The main tasks of the Foreigners' Service team include processing and deciding on applications for residence permits from foreigners and issuing or refusing residence permits.

Debt counseling
General debt counseling and the preparation and support of consumer insolvency proceedings are among the main tasks of debt counseling.

The management of the Department for Family, Education and Social Affairs is one of the main tasks of the head of department.

Health department
Assessments in accordance with civil service law, fitness for duty for civil servants with long-term illnesses; dental assessments under state aid law; pre- and after-care for mentally ill and addicted persons, counseling and support for those affected and their relatives are among the main tasks of the health department.

Health Promotion Unit
Municipal health reporting, strategic health planning and health promotion are among the tasks of the Health Promotion Unit.

Tasks under the Housing Benefit Act are among the team's main tasks.

Hygiene and environmental medicine team
Prevention and control of communicable diseases in accordance with the IfSG as a sovereign task and vaccinations in accordance with STIKO recommendations, vaccination advice, advice on travel vaccinations are among the main tasks of the Hygiene and Environmental Medicine team.
