Child protection - anonymous case consultation

Children and adolescents are under special protection in our society. This is legally anchored in the Federal Child Protection Act. The aim of this law is to protect the welfare of the child and to promote the physical, mental and emotional development of children and adolescents.

People who spend a lot of time with children or adolescents in their work are the first to notice signals of a possible risk to the welfare of a child. Uncertainties often arise in the (subjective) assessment of a situation.

Professionals play a key role in the assessment of a risk situation. If, in the course of their professional activities, groups of persons (persons with confidentiality) become aware of significant indications that the welfare of a child/adolescent is at risk, they have a duty to discuss the situation with the persons with custody and, if necessary, to work towards the adoption of appropriate assistance.

For the fulfilment of their duties, persons who are in professional contact with children and juveniles can make use of the advice of a so-called "specialist with in-depth experience" when assessing a risk to the welfare of a child in individual cases.

This counselling is carried out by the Youth Welfare Office "anonymously", without mentioning the names of the children, adolescents and parents concerned.

The aims of anonymous counselling are:

  • To enable the assessment of whether there is a risk to the welfare of the child.
  • To point out the possibilities of averting the danger
  • mediation of support by other specialists or specialist agencies
  • joint discussion of possible further steps
