Issuance of documents - existing civil status registers

The Jena registry office maintains the following registers for its area of responsibility:

• Birth register (110 years)
• Marriage register and civil partnership register (80 years)
• Death register (30 years)

The church may be able to provide information on events up to the year 1876. Please contact the local church for this.

Certified register printouts, which lie between the aforementioned periods, can be requested from the Jena City and Administration Archives.

The Jena registry office issues documents from the civil status registers of the following dissolved registry offices:

• Ammerbach
• Burgau
• Cospeda
• Isserstedt
• Jenaprießnitz
• Kunitz
• Lichtenhain
• Lobeda
• Maua
• Vierzehnheiligen
• Wenigenjena
• Zwätzen

We would like to process your request for the issuance of certificates as quickly as possible. In this sense, you would be very helpful to us if you refrain from further inquiries about the processing status. This will enable us to process your request as quickly as possible.

Civil status certificates can be issued and delivered in person during office hours, by appointment. The documents are issued to the person concerned, to the parents or to relatives in the direct line. Other persons may receive certificates only upon presentation of an appropriate power of attorney. We kindly ask everyone who is able to visit the registry office in person or who has an authorized person to do so, to make an appointment in order to pay for and receive the civil status documents directly on the spot.
