Details
Certain vehicles that are not subject to registration must be provided with registration plates, as they are subject to the main inspection obligation.
According to § 4 Para. 2 FZV, the obligation to display registration plates applies to the following types of vehicle:
- Light motorcycle
- self-propelled working machine (>20km/h)
- Trailer working machine (>25 km/h)
- Special trailers for sports equipment and animals (>25 km/h)
Proof of insurance is no longer provided by an insurance number plate in accordance with § 26 FZV, but by a confirmation of insurance.
Documents
- Vehicle registration document or registration certificate Part I
- If applicable, external registration plates - if the vehicle is still registered in an external registration district.
- for deregistered vehicles: vehicle registration document or registration certificate Part I with deregistration note
- Form for type approval or EEC declaration of conformity with registration note
- Certificates of the still valid general inspection - not necessary if the first inspection was not yet due
- Electronic insurance confirmation (eVB, formerly insurance double card)
- General documents on the vehicle owner (see Downloads)
Opening hours
Document issue - without an appointment
Documents that have already been applied for and are now ready for collection (passport, ID card and eID card as well as documents from the driving license authority) can be collected from reception during opening hours without an appointment.
Other requests with an appointment
An appointment must be booked for personal visits for other matters. This can be done online or by telephone.

The registration authority uses special adhesive seals with special security features for the vehicle documents. This increases the total fees by € 0.30 per adhesive seal used.
