3D printing with plastic has now arrived in many households. At ifw Jena, we are also working on producing bodies made of glass using 3D printing.

3D printing or additive manufacturing is possible with many different materials. Plastic components can be produced quickly and easily from plastic filament using 3D printing. Powder bed processes can be used to 3D print metals. However, the additive processing of glass and ceramics still poses a challenge.

At ifw Jena, we are investigating additive manufacturing processes for a wide range of materials. Our scientists are researching the best way to 3D print aluminum, copper or steel, for example. In current research projects, we are also working on the additive production of glass. We have investigated and developed various processes for this, which we will be presenting at the Long Night of Science.
