Genealogy

The old address books are often useful as a first step in family history research (-> Links).

With the amendment of the Civil Status Act on 1.1.2009, the civil registers whose continuation periods have expired have become archive material. The city archive will gladly provide information from the following register volumes:

• Registry office Jena - birth registers until 1909
• Registry office Jena - marriage registers until 1939
• Registry office Jena - death books until 1989
• Registry office Wenigenjena (-Camsdorf) 1876 until 1909

For reasons of conservation, use is only possible by providing written information and/or copies. No documents in the sense of the civil status law are issued from archived civil status documents. It is possible to make copies or extracts or certified copies in accordance with the applicable archive law.

Information from the following years of the birth, marriage and death registers of the registry office Jena can only be requested at the registry office Jena.

The registry office Jena furthermore provides all information from the civil status books of the following dissolved registry offices: Ammerbach, Burgau, Cospeda, Isserstedt, Jenaprießnitz, Kunitz, Lichtenhain, Lobeda, Maua, Vierzehnheiligen and Zwätzen.

Family research or heir searches serve private interests and are therefore subject to fees. The fees and costs are calculated according to the working time spent on research and the production of digital copies or the issue of (certified) copies. We will be pleased to inform you in advance about the costs to be expected.
